The Piuma Nanoindenter (manufactured by Optics 11 in The Netherlands) is a revolutionary, easy-to-use, portable system that brings the micro- and nano-mechanical properties of soft (bio)materials and tissues to light. At the heart of the Piuma Nanoindenter is the sensitive indentation probe (1), which is mounted in the indentation stage of the Piuma indenter unit. The indentation stage consists of a coarse and fine stage that enable an automatic approach to find the sample surface, and provides extremely accurate indentation (4). Additional to this indentation stage, the Piuma Nanoindenter has a manual stage to allow easy sample mounting (5). Your sample can be placed on the built-in X-Y stage (3), which allows the user to measure the Young's Modulus of multiple points in a grid, on a single sample. An on-board microscope shows what is happening directly under the probe! (6)
